The Role - Staff Accountant

Staff Accountants are an essential element of our team and work with firm leadership to deliver attest and tax services for our clients.  These associates will have an opportunity to work in diverse areas of public accounting and over time, can help direct their practice emphasis.  


Staff accountants typically work with a member of OFWF leadership in completing work for our clients.  They have the opportunity to work on both attest (audits, reviews, etc.) engagements and tax return preparation for individuals, non-profits, and businesses along with other engagement-driven projects.

 

Typical Role of Staff Accountant on Projects

  • Participate in many phases of attest engagements (compilations, reviews and audits);

  • Participate in researching client data and developing appropriate tax schedules, , following tax code and regulations and preparation of various types of tax returns including income tax for individual, business and trusts, information returns for nonprofits, sales tax, and other types)

  • Participate in a wide range of projects; consistently demonstrating creative thinking and individual initiative;

  • Utilize problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;

  • Demonstrate teamwork dynamics through working as a team member;

  • Identify and address client needs; and,

  • Demonstrate flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks while exercising professional skepticism.

Required Skills and Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable about engagement, accounting and tax software systems.

 

Qualifications

  • Successful Staff Accountants have a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related major.  

  • Candidates have either recently graduated or have up to 2 years of public accounting experience.

  • Having completed at least one internship in the public accounting field is highly desirable.

  • Having met the educational requirements to become a CPA and has either passed the CPA exam or is in the process of taking the exams.

  • Demonstrates strict attention to detail, organization and efficiency.

  • Possesses strong communication skills.
